In his
Letter to Timothy he also condemns the
following, using the seventh word "Pornoi"
(Greek) meaning male prostitute and the eighth
word "Andrapodistai" (Greek)
meaning "the one who reduces a free born
man to slavery with a view to making a male prostitute
of him"
It is
of extreme importance to note that Paul never
cited, quoted or referred to Sodom in his condemnation
of homosexuality, and being the chief architect
and original spin doctor for the Christian Church
would most certainly have used Sodom to attack
homosexuality if it were at all relevant. The
fact that neither Paul nor Jesus ever cited Sodom
makes it absolutely clear that the sin of Sodom
was never homosexuality.
The justification
for Gay Men's AIDS Forum (GMAF) in addressing the above
became clear in the course of our research into
biblical homophobia, when we could not find a
single clergyman amongst the 96 we interviewed
who had knowledge of any of the data above or
who had examined the root texts. When we pointed
out the disputed meanings of the eight words which
were the foundation stones for biblical homophobia
and the lethal impact of Christian psuedoteachings
on homosexuality on gay men today, they could
not have exhibited less interest and referred
only to accepted Christian orthodoxy. They refused
to do their own researches as they felt this matter
was of no importance as it had long been decided
by the Church Fathers. GMAF, however,
in representing several hundred gay men from a
Christian background, feel that they need to be
aware that the scriptural basis which condemns
them to "Eternal Hellfire and Damnation"
is based on mistranslation of root texts, and
faulty biblical scholarship.
Countless
thousands of gay men have needlessly been executed
by the Christian Church because the eight simple
words above were mistranslated, misunderstood
and misrepresented. Even today.
