| "Gay rights don't exist" says new Black
Music Council. "Being gay is not a human right" they told
gay rights activists. |
"Being gay is not a human right, you werent born
gay, you chose to be gay," said Blacka Dread, the chair of the new
group set up to "defend" the reggae industry from "racist
attacks". "Racist attacks" is how they characterise complaints
from the gay community against eight dancehall singers who advocate violence
against gays and lesbians. Peter Tatchell from OutRage! and Charlie Anglin
from the Black Gay Men's Advisory Group met with the BMC at a meeting
organised by The Voice newspaper in an attempt to solve the stand-off
between gay campaigners and the Jamaican singers. "We will not ever
bow," said the BMC, refusing to endorse a document condemning antigay
violence. "Gay rights don't exist."
