Richmond Council vs Gays & Lesbians
Tory resigns and will become independent - By Ian Nott

A NORTH Richmond councillor who was elected as a Conservative Whip when the Conservatives took the reins of power within Richmond upon Thames last May, announced his resignation this week.

Cllr Marc Cranfield-Adams resigned from his post of Conservative Whip and will now sit as an Independent Conservative.

Richmond upon Thames council leader, Tony Arbour said: "This man is a serial resigner. He did not tell us that he had previously resigned from the Tory Party.

"If he had any honour he would resign from the council so that the residents of North Richmond could be represented by three councillors who put a safer cleaner, and better borough above their own personal, private agenda."

Leader of the Liberal Democrats and Kew councillor, Serge Lourie said: "I should like to comment as Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on the news that Cllr Cranfield-Adams has resigned from the Conservative Group

"This is clearly an internal Tory matter, although I am surprised that this happened only seven months after the election."

At the time of going to press Cllr Cranfield-Adams did not wish to comment.
